Advantages of Renewable Energy

Before enlisting the vantages, allow me to point out the importance of renewable sources of energy. We rely heavily on fossil fuels and other kinds of non-renewable energy sources to generate power and run industries. Look closely at the term "non-renewable energy" - it means that they cannot be replaced once they have been utilized. The earlier mentioned fossil fuel is one of the best examples. The metamorphosis of biomaterials in the deepest layers of the earth results in the formation of such fuels. The entire process might take many millions of years. Unfortunately, we will meet our fate very much earlier than that!

The depletion of non-renewable energy sources is just the primary aspect. We must also consider the damaging effects that are being brought about on the atmosphere during the utilization of these kinds of fuels. Carbon and various other harmful materials are released during the combustion of non-renewable fuels. The increasing levels of carbon and associated compounds will give rise to adverse environmental effects such as global warming, melting of the ice in the polar regions (and thus the increase of water levels in the seas) and several medical ailments such as skin cancer.

I have already outlined two most important advantages of renewable energy sources. Firstly, they do not get exhausted during their consumption. The natural resources will be present for a very long time, and we can use them without the fear of depleting them. Common examples of renewable energy sources are solar energy, wind energy (which is ironically a form of solar energy) and water energy (hydropower). The sun will always continue to bless us with radiant sunlight and thus the winds will be present in the environment. The same is true for water energy - literally, three-fourths of the earth is covered with water.

Secondly, utilizing these renewable energy sources will not affect the ecosystem in any manner. No kind of harmful by products is generated when solar energy is captured by solar panels and finally converted into electrical energy. The rotation of the blades of the wind turbines generates electricity; once again, the ecosystem is not affected. Minor disadvantages exist for water energy; the construction of large dams that act as water reservoirs might damage the biological ecosystem of the surroundings. In order to rectify the shortcomings of water energy, renewable energy experts have devised dam-less hydroelectric power plants. The kinetic energy present in the moving water of rivers and streams are put to use in this niche.

Another advantage that one can attribute for renewable energy sources is the absence of an extraction process. Once we have the right kind of machinery, we can start generating power just like that! The efficiency of renewable sources of energy is something else, which I would like to point out before I conclude this article. The scientific community has been discovering newer fine-tuned methods that can literally harness the potentials of renewable energy without efficiency losses. However, certain renewable energy sources such as biomass and biogas induce harmful agents into the atmosphere.
